EQUINE MASSAGE
Horses experience problems in motion (and mind) resulting from the strain and exertion of exercise and work, stressful experiences and from the aging process. Massage sessions are designed for the unique needs of each horse. Highly sensitive or newly rescued horses can often respond more readily to energy medicine so this modality may be offered first or in combination with massage. I practice a method of sportsmassage that was researched and co-developed by my mentor, Joann Wilson, and Jack Meagher (pronounced “Mar”). Wilson Meagher Sports Therapy employs the application of an anatomically accurate series of soft tissue techniques to restore complete freedom and ease of movement in the equine body. This method identifies stress points in the muscle and then through its techniques, alleviates muscle restriction, tightness and pain. This work is specific to the cause of the muscular problem while treating the entire body. Massage therapy is a natural approach to pain management for the senior horse, and can be a valuable addition to every horse’s wellness plan. It is an essential form of preventative care in that it aids in prevention of injury and loss of mobility.
The results of this work are:

“Motion is a continuous wave that moves through the poll to the hind foot. When freedom of motion is limited from muscle tightening, stress and strain will develop in others parts of the body.” -Joann Wilson
